Tatiana Kenko: History of a passionate person, unique museum and Gulliver

Right next to Vitebsk one will find the village of Staroye sielo and within it – a school museum. The person caring for it is Margarita Dmitriyevna Yushkievich. She has been working in the school for many years. She taught Geography and History, was the school’s principal and vice-principal. She studied local culture and history for several decades and is the author of more than 10 books and poetry. More than 13,000 artifacts, gathered since the end of the 1960’s, are being kept in five separate rooms. But within the confines of the museum there is one room that is dedicated to a person born in the Vitebsk area, one of the greatest individuals from the end of the 19th and start of the 20th century – Fyodor Andreyevich Mikhnov. On the basis of a letter written by an elderly dweller of the same village a search about Mikhnov was begun 40 years ago. Correspondence ensued with people living in Russia, Germany and the USA. Relatives of Mikhanov were found and a book was published on the matter. In 2018 Ivan Kazak, a sculptor, created 2 variants statues. One of them can now be viewed in the older section of Vitebsk.

Есть под Витебском в деревне Старое село школьный музей. Хозяйкой его является Маргарита Дмитриевна Юшкевич. В школе работает много лет. Преподавала географию и историю, была и директором этой же школы, и завучем. Краеведением занимается не одно десятилетие и еще она автор более десяти книг, стихов. В пяти залах хранятся больше 13 тысяч артефактов, собранных еще с конца 60-х годов прошлого века. Но есть в музее особый зал, посвященный уроженцу витебской земли, самому большому человеку конца XIX-начала XX века – Федору Андреевичу Махнову. Поиски сведений о нем начались 40 лет назад с письма пожилого односельчанина. Началась  переписка с Россией, Германией, США. Нашлись родственники, вышла книга. В 2018 году скульптор Иван Казак создал два варианта памятника. И один теперь можно увидеть в старинной части Витебска.
