Liavon Karpovich (Luna-Volja, Belarus): “National Self-Consciousness in the Light of Morality, Mercy and Love” (webzine “Kultura. Natsyja”, issue 30, November 2022, 25-51, www.sakavik.net )

Abstract. In the article the author expresses the opinion that national consciousness should be based on the foundation of morality, mercy and love, as this guarantees the democratic nature of the society being built. It is claimed that national consciousness does not arise by itself, but is formed as a result of the fruitful and sacrificial work by all interested persons and structures. Most of all it is realized through the collective work by societal elite and leaders. Thus, it is most important to have a leader be a creator, not a destroyer of social norms. Examples are given of both negative and fruitful work manifested in the 2020 revolution. The influence of the opposition in emigration towards the formation of national consciousness and self-awareness is considered using the area of philately (i.e. placing national symbols in postage stamps). This activity is illustrated by images of created philatelic materials of different years in the Appendix to the article.
