Abstract: regarding the collection of short stories by Henryk Siankievich “Fairy Tales and Legends”. Henryk Siankievich is a world-famous Polish writer, a Nobel Laureate. His works have been translated for some time and are read worldwide. Yet his collected works were only recently gathered and published in Poland under one book title of short stories, which had been originally published piecemeal in journals and collections. For the most part they were unknown for most later generations. His works consisted of allegorical, satirist and simply educational works written on the historical background and tied in with mythology of India, Egypt, ancient Greece, Rome and the Bible. Until recently they had not been translated and published neither into Russian nor Belarusian. In the meantime, they posses and present not only educational but also scholarly value as a testimony of still another largely unknown, yes – even to today’s Polish readers, of Henryk Siankievish’s tremendous literary talent.
